Counting of the Omer continued

Counting of the Omer continued – Day 6

Y’Shua rose triumphant from the grave on the day of First Fruits and for 40 days He appeared to His disciples and certain others testifying to a completion of all He had come to earth to do and a promise of what was still to come.  He completed the first part of His mission i.e. the suffering servant – Y’Shua ben Yoseph; His resurrection promised the fulfillment of the second part of His mission – coming back as the Ruling King – Y’Shua ben David!

The number 40 signifies the end of things; after 40 days the rain stopped, Y’Shua fasted for 40 days, Moses was on the mountain 40 days; and then the beginning of something new.  Moses brought down the 2 tablets upon which were written the instructions of YHVH after his 40 days of being in YHVH’s presence; Y’Shua began His earthly ministry of preaching the authority of the kingdom of heaven was at hand after His 40 days in the wilderness; the rain stopped after 40 days and the waters began to recede from the earth, everything was washed clean and the first thing Noah sees as a sign of this new world was an olive leaf – YHVH’s peace.

The disciples of Y’Shua had 40 days to confirm upon their hearts that Y’Shua was indeed the Son of YHVH.  They had 40 days to remove from themselves all lingering doubts, fears, guilts, lacks, shame, anything that would hinder them in the next phase of their work as followers of Y’Shua.  As Y’Shua was leaving them to return to the right hand of YHVH, He left them with instructions to go into Jerusalem and wait for the promised outpouring of the Ruach haKodesh.  He had previously told them their assignment, now He was telling them to wait for the power to carry out that assignment.  They were to spend the final 10 days of the Omer waiting for the fulfillment of the promise.

It’s interesting to note the number 10 in this mix as well. The number 10 represents judgment, or authority.  We see this in the 10 commandments as well as the 10 northern tribes making up the kingdom that was eventually dispersed to the entire world. When we add these thoughts together, we have a look at what the 10 days were preparing the disciples for. They were being prepared for sending into the entire world with the authority of the Ruach HaKodesh/Holy Spirit to proclaim the Kingdom of our Elohim – authority and justice.

When you add this 10 to the 40 to come up with the 50 days of the counting of the Omer, we can now see a picture of Jubilee, or restoration. Each year the 50 days of the counting of the Omer gives us a miniature picture of the year of Jubilee that occurs every 50 years in the calendar of YHVH. This year of Jubilee is a time of setting fee things that have been bound.  Spiritually, we must engage in the 40 days of testing to come into the 10 days of “waiting” for the empowering of the Ruach which then enables us to move out into the nations for the freedom and restoration of the Jubilee.

promised the infilling of the Ruach haKodesh: John 14:15-18  If you love me, keep my commandments.  And I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

John 14:26  But the Comforter, which is the Ruach haKodesh, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 16:7-8  Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

John 16:13  But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

The above verses are all promises that Y’Shua assured us would be ours… if we fulfill the conditions of the promise.  And what are those conditions?  John 14:12 – believe in Me; John 14:21 – keep my commandments; John 14:23 – love Me; John 15:7 – abide in Me; John 15:12 – love one another as I have loved you.  For 50 days the disciples were tested in these areas and the results of their testing’s were made evident when the promised Ruach was poured out in power on Shavuot.  As it was for them then, so I believe it can be for us today.

Even so come Adonai Y’Shua!
