Is the Bible Relevant for Today?

Is the Bible Relevant for Today?

I was visiting a church awhile back when something the pastor said at first shocked me, then made me mad and finally saddened me as I realized that this man wasn’t speaking out random, isolated thoughts, but he was reflecting a general mood in religious society as a whole.  He was standing on the raised platform of this church, the band instruments were neatly arrayed behind him, there was no podium to stand behind, he was dressed in jeans and a casual shirt, and when he began to speak his voice was full of emotion to the point that he could hardly hold back tears.  He began his homily by saying that he had prepared a sermon for this day, but something had happened during the week that he just had to speak from his heart, “so I’m throwing out the sermon I spent all week preparing and I am going to speak to you all from my heart.”  He had his congregation’s attention, they were all right there with him, practically on the edge of their seats, and before they rushed the stage to console him, these were his next words, “sometimes as a pastor situations come up that the Bible doesn’t have any answers for, sometimes the Bible just isn’t relevant for the issues we face today.”  I don’t know how many people in that large congregation consciously caught that phrase, but I do know that every person’s sub-conscious heard those words and they stuck there like a sliver under the fingernail, ready to infect and fester.

If the Bible is not relevant then how do we navigate the troubled waters of today’s world?  For those who live in America, if the Bible is not relevant for every situation then how are we going to answer the question of signing up or not for the “Affordable Care Act?”  It is a law of the land that we must obey or suffer penalties for disobedience.  But the 6th Commandment says, “Thou shalt not kill.”  The Affordable Care Act demands that each person’s health insurance plan provide for abortifacients.  As a believer in Y’Shua who is the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us, that is the Bible – the Spoken, Revealed Word of YHVH! – Who will we obey, who will we follow?

Esau was a son of Isaac, just as Jacob was a son of Isaac.  In case you don’t remember Isaac was Abraham’s son, the child of promise.  They both grew up with the same heritage, but when the test came Esau threw away his heritage for food. (Read the story in Genesis 25:27-34.)

This is a statement made by Catherine Bertini, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Program at the globalist UN World Food Summit in November of 1996. “Food is power! We use it to change behavior. Some may call that bribery. We do not apologize.” Ms. Bertini is former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Agriculture.

If the Bible is not relevant then when you are faced with the decision to take the mark of the beast so you can continue to buy and sell – will you? You have children to feed, a mortgage to pay, elderly parents that need medications; will it be an easy thing to justify your decision to participate in the beast system because of your needs, real or perceived? Or will you hold YHVH to His spoken, revealed Word, Y’Shua haMashiach and believe that if we cast all our cares upon Him He will care for us as it is said in 1Peter 5:6-11; Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus (Y’Shua haMashiach), after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (KJV)

Have you experienced His care?  Do you really believe He cares?  If you don’t believe He cares for you now when things are still relatively good, will it be easier to trust him to care for you when things get really tough? The temptation to break His commandments, statutes and ordinances to serve your flesh will be overpowering, because you have not taken the time to get to know Him, to learn to trust Him, to obey Him above all.

And for those of us who may have children and/or grandchildren in school how are you going to respond when the government legislates that your child’s school now has to promote a flagrantly non-Biblical agenda. Is the Bible relevant when it says in Genesis 1:27 …and male and female He created them; and what do you do about Leviticus 20:13 and from the 2nd Testament Romans 1:26-32, when your child known by YHVH in his/her mother’s womb tells you that God made a mistake and I really am what they obviously are not. Is the government helping your child or the beast system when they legislate that no child can receive counseling for gender confusing issues whether they want the counseling or not?  What do you do then?  Is the Bible relevant for today when it tells us to train up our children in the way they should go? Scripture says we are to train them up – not the government! How do you know the way they should be trained up if you are relying on your own mind, will and emotions as formed for you by the government and media relations firms and not from taking your counsel from the timeless Word of YHVH Y’Shua who is the Way, the Truth and the Life?

If the Bible is not relevant for issues we are facing today then we only have our own sensibilities to rely on and from Jeremiah 17:9 we read that the heart is desperately wicked and deceitful above all things.  It is the life-changing power of the Ruach haKodesh (Holy Spirit) that leads us into all truth. (John 16:13) To be victorious and live the overcoming life we must open our heart door to His knock as it says in Revelation 3:20-21; Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne (KJV).

Here is another great promise from Jeremiah 31:33  But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.(KJV)

Do we not want to believe or think about the Bible as a relevant guide for our life today because to live by and follow its timeless counsel might mean hardship, inconvenience, becoming marginalized, isolated, fines, maybe imprisonment?

The following scripture should give us all pause for deep thought and much contemplation as we, each one, determine how we are going to navigate through these very troublous times.

Luke 18:7-8;  And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” (ESV)

Don’t sell out to the demands of the flesh like Esau did, but daily buffet your body that you may run the race as to win and receive the prize of eternal life (I Corinthians 9:24-27) – nothing else really matters does it?

To YHVH be the glory; Great things He has done!
