Daily Bread Thoughts… Offerings

The Peace Offering

Continuing to talk about the various offerings from the aspect of the Spirit of the Torah…

Peace offerings — Lev 3:1 “’Now if his offering is a sacrifice of peace offerings, if he is going to offer out of the herd, whether male or female, he shall offer it without defect before the LORD. ‘He shall lay his hand on the head of his offering and slay it at the doorway of the tent of meeting, and Aaron’s sons the priests shall sprinkle the blood around on the altar. ‘From the sacrifice of the peace offerings he shall present an offering by fire to the LORD, the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is on the entrails, and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and the lobe of the liver, which he shall remove with the kidneys. ‘Then Aaron’s sons shall offer it up in smoke on the altar on the burnt offering, which is on the wood that is on the fire; it is an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the LORD.”

When we need a “do over” we most likely have allowed chaos to take control assaulting shalom; which is YHVH’s power that destroys the devil’s works that brings chaos; whether it be in us, our home, workplace, or with our family and friends; our behavior, thoughts, attitudes and actions have been such that we have attracted hasatan and not YHVH. It is the Priest’s job to offer atonement to the penitent one. The sacrifice of “me” as a whole burnt offering allows Yashua to put His Hand over the mouth of the accuser of the brethren (hasatan). “Shhh!” He says, “you may not say one more word against her/him, they are covered!”

YHVH wants all the fat! In our bodies we burn fat for energy; YHVH says give all the fat to Me. Could this be a representation of giving to YHVH the energy we spend in destructive endeavors that do not promote Shalom. YHVH wants the fat to remind us to work the muscles of our heart to love our fellow brethren, work the muscles of our diaphragm to speak words of encouragement, edification and exhortation, work the muscles of our hands and feet to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick and those in prison.

Abba, forgive me for allowing the one who is in this world to steal Your Shalom in me. I thank you that You are in me and You are greater than he that is in the world. I lay my peace offering; the energy I expended for unholy and unrighteous actions, on my whole burnt offering which is all of me. Please may my offering ascend as a soothing aroma before You.

Daily Bread… Vayikra 4

Acts 9:1-2, Now Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest, and asked for letters from him to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, both men and women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

After Yashua’s resurrection and ascension to the Right-hand of YHVH, His followers referred to themselves as the Way, referencing John 14:6, Yashua said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

Saul also known as Paul met Yashua while he was on the way to Damascus. When we meet Yashua, have a personal encounter with our Savior, we will never be the same as in the case of Paul. “…Now for several days he was with the disciples who were at Damascus, and immediately he began to proclaim Yashua in the synagogues, saying, “He is the Son of God.” Act 9:20.

When we are on the Way we experience Act 9:31, “So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria enjoyed peace, being built up; and going on in the fear of YHVH and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it continued to increase.”
If Yashua is the Way, which I am firmly convinced that He is; then the Tabernacle given by YHVH to the children of Israel on Mount Sinai is instruction to us for following the Way of Yashua. March 29th post for Daily Bread… Vayikra, was a beginning exploration of the Way through the Tabernacle of YHVH. I am going to take the next several posts and explore the Tabernacle as the Way of Yashua with you.

Be Blessed in YHVH Yashua!

Daily Bread… Vayikra 3

I was sitting in congregation awhile back when YHVH brought the story of Elijah on Mount Carmel to mind. The life of Elijah has been of particular interest to me for several years so I was wondering when the Mount Carmel portion came to my mind what YHVH wanted to teach me. As I reviewed the story the instruction was not long in coming.

1Kings 18:22-29, Then Elijah said to the people, “I alone am left a prophet of the LORD, but Baal’s prophets are 450 men. “Now let them give us two oxen; and let them choose one ox for themselves and cut it up, and place it on the wood, but put no fire under it; and I will prepare the other ox and lay it on the wood, and I will not put a fire under it. “Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD, and the God who answers by fire, He is God.” And all the people said, “That is a good idea.” So Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Choose one ox for yourselves and prepare it first for you are many, and call on the name of your god, but put no fire under it.” Then they took the ox which was given them and they prepared it and called on the name of Baal from morning until noon saying, “O Baal, answer us.” But there was no voice and no one answered. And they leaped about the altar which they made. It came about at noon, that Elijah mocked them and said, “Call out with a loud voice, for he is a god; either he is occupied or gone aside, or is on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep and needs to be awakened.” So they cried with a loud voice and cut themselves according to their custom with swords and lances until the blood gushed out on them. When midday was past, they raved until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice; but there was no voice, no one answered, and no one paid attention.

“My people worship me like the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel.” The words were such a shock that I experienced an instant and intense rush of adrenaline flood through my body. “How can that be, Abba, they are worshiping you from a heart filled with praise.”

“Yes, they sing, they shout, they clap their hands, they beat their drums and strum their instruments, and they expect for their time and effort to get a response from heaven. But where is the repentance, where is the washing, the humble hearts, forgiveness, restitution; I want them to seek Me — My Face, but they only seek My Hand. They are unwilling to come out of Babylon and wash their robes in the blood of the Lamb. As long as they treat Me like Baal, I will not answer them.”

YHVH tells us to be holy as He is holy (Lev11:45) and the route to being holy as He is holy is found in 2Chron 7:14, “and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin…” then the words of Yashua to His disciples as He sent them out: “…go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.” (Matthew 10:6-8) will become our reality.

Daily Bread… Vayikra 2

There is an interesting story in Proverbs chapter 7 about the adulteress woman who seduces the naïve young man who was lacking sense. Verses 8 and 9, “Passing through the street near her corner; and he takes the way to her house, in the twilight, in the evening, In the middle of the night and in the darkness.” This naïve young man put himself in the way of harm and he was caught by this seductress’s intentions. Verse 12 and 13, “She is now in the streets, now in the squares, and lurks by every corner. So she seizes him and kisses him and with a brazen face she says to him:
Verse 14 and 15, “I was due to offer peace offerings; today I have paid my vows. Therefore I have come out to meet you, to seek your presence earnestly, and I have found you.”

The world is the seductress; everywhere one turns there is something waiting to grab and snare. And the really sad part of this story is that the seductress tells a convincing story by adding just a taste of righteousness; “it’s really okay, I have made preparations for offerings and sacrifices; I have paid my vows,” she says.
And so she seduces him; or the world seduces us.

Verses 16-21, “I have spread my couch with coverings, with colored linens of Egypt; I have sprinkled my bed with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon. Come, let us drink our fill of love until morning; let us delight ourselves with caresses. For my husband is not at home, he has gone on a long journey; he has taken a bag of money with him, at the full moon he will come home. With her many persuasions she entices him; with her flattering lips she seduces him.”

Our husband, Yashua, has gone on a long journey, but His promise is to return for us. John 14:1-3, “…for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.”

It is not acceptable behavior to clear your conscience by paying a vow or offering a sacrifice to YHVH, and then go and intentionally sin again. This is worshiping YHVH Yashua in form only with no substance. “Come out of her (Babylon) my people that you not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues; for her sins have piled up as high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.” Revelation 18:4-5.

Psalm 51:15-17, “O Lord, open my lips, that my mouth may declare Your praise. For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; You are not pleased with burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.”
